Meet Tim Barrett

Tim Barrett was born in 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1976 he received his A.A. in Art/Journalism from Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Tim went on to graduate from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida with a B.F.A. in 1978. He then came to Atlanta in 1982 and made an art statement by founding the Blue Rat Gallery, an exhibitor of alternative art, which served the city until 1987. In 1987 Tim also founded and became curator of Host Gallery, which coordinates traveling exhibitions at selected artist's studios. He co-directed and coordinated an Olympic exchange program for The Cultural Legacy: Barcelona ‘92 to Atlanta ‘96 Public Arts Program. Today he is currently active with the organization Art Beats & Lyrics. His commitment to presenting art to the public runs deep but Tim's true passion is his painting.

He is president of Tim Barrett Designs, Inc. His award winning company has long been one of Atlanta’s most successful design and fabrication studios for the motion picture, broadcast, and advertising industries.  Located in historic Inman Park, just minutes from downtown, CNN, and the Martin Luther King Center, this 24,000 sq. foot facility houses a 5,000 sq. foot production and scenic construction facility.  Also included in the building is an 8,000 sq. foot raw warehouse space that has been used for feature films, music videos, television commercials and special events. The firm specializes in solving technical challenges of the film, broadcast, and communications arts industries.

His work includes all aspects of creative and fabrication management for more than 30 feature films, such as Steel Magnolias, For Better or Worse, Vampire Diaries, Passing Glory, Scream 2, Drop Squad, Paris Trout, Free Jack, My Cousin Vinnie, and Dead Poet’s Society. The firm has done extensive design, art direction, construction engineering, and production of broadcast quality sets for such companies as BBC, NBC, ABC, FOX, HGTV, DYI Network, CNN, The Weather Channel, BBC, TCI, FUGI Television, Sports South, and NASA. Other clients include Coca-Cola, Geffen Records, Budweiser, Delta Airlines, Georgia Lottery, Universal Entertainment and Warner Brothers.
